Bruce Lloyd's Cessna 172

This is a Cessna 172 with 9ft wingspan. It is primarily made of balsa and plywood with a foam core one piece wing. It is powered by a Quadra 35 modified chain saw engine and swings an 18x8 fibreglass prop.

The wing was vacuum bagged in a single piece with Obeche veneer covering and took approximately 6mths to make. The wing struts are functional as stress carriers and all joints are pinned and glued for extra strength. It flies extremely well and is easily confused with a full sized aircraft at height. It weighs in at 12kg making it certifiable to be able to be flown. The only purchased parts are the three rubber tyres and glass propeller.
