Nitromethane is used as an additive in model 'glow plug' engines to improve the specific output of the engine. It is made from chloroacetic acid and sodium nitrite (chemical symbol CH3NO2).

  • More power.
  • Consistent idle.
  • Reliable pick-up from idle.
  • Better reliability overall.
  • Easier to start.

There is little to gain from adding more than 30% nitromethane. The increase in power may be beyond what the engine was designed for and may result in severe wear and/or components failing. Also, nitromethane is expensive and so greater than 20 to 25% may be prohibitive.

If you are experiencing engine problems in line with the benefits that nitromethane can offer then try increasing the percentage in stages.
