Wooden Clock

One thing I thought I just have to make is a clock after reading Longitude by Dave Sobel.

I have broken this article into a number of pages, some looking at the parts, some a discussion around the ideas and links to other interesting places and some around the experiments I have done whilst making this clock.


  • Bearings - a look at the bearings and losses
  • Escapement - I decided upon was the Graham escapement
  • Gears - different gear designs and trials.
  • Frame - three layes of MDF with aluminium spacers and 6mm counter sunk bolts.

Not so sure this is actually a clock at this point, but it runs and has a second hand.
